{"id":782951,"date":"2011-01-31T16:55:29","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T21:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/homeschoolblogger.com\/neveradullmoment\/?p=782951"},"modified":"2011-01-31T16:55:29","modified_gmt":"2011-01-31T21:55:29","slug":"marvelous-mommy-monday-smile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/agracefullplace.com\/?p=782951","title":{"rendered":"Marvelous Mommy Monday&#8211;*Smile*!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had a <em>wonderful <\/em>time with our friends on Friday!\u00a0 And then got to go to a baby shower Saturday&#8211;so much fun!<\/p>\n<p>Now for Fabulous Family Friday&#8211;on Monday! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>There is a song we sing called &#8220;The Smile Song&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><em>Every day in this world, there are people that I meet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I walk up, shake their hands, and they see<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The kind of person that I am by the smile that I wear.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I am blessed by the smile Jesus gives me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A smile, a smile to make this life worthwhile;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A smile, precious smile \u00a0Jesus gives me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And someday I know up to Heaven I will go,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Where I&#8217;ll thank Jesus for this smile He gives me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0~The Smile Song, Author Unknown, Adapted by Janna DePue<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>How important is a smile?\u00a0\u00a0 VERY!<\/p>\n<p>There are several verses about a cheerful or merry heart in Proverbs.\u00a0 Here are a few:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.&#8221; ~Proverbs 15:13<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.&#8221;\u00a0 ~Proverbs 15:15<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ~Proverbs 17:22<\/p>\n<p>Scripture tells us where a smile comes from&#8211;the heart!\u00a0 And how can we have a merry heart?\u00a0 By focusing on all Christ has done for us!\u00a0 And allowing Him to live in our heart&#8211;and permeate the rest of us, too! \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Just recently I had a friend at church comment how our girls are always smiling.\u00a0 I have received that comment\/compliment frequently!\u00a0\u00a0 Often the moms will tell me how they just don&#8217;t really smile a whole lot.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I don&#8217;t smile all the time, either!\u00a0 But, I would say overall, that I am a cheerful person and smile and laugh a lot with my family.\u00a0\u00a0 If we&#8217;re not careful, we can get so focused on all that needs to get done, on what&#8217;s wrong with our spiritual walk, or our husband, or our in-laws, or the world&#8230;..that we let these\u00a0things steal our joy.<\/p>\n<p>Look again at the verses quoted above.\u00a0 All refer to a &#8220;merry heart&#8221;.\u00a0 But what does that mean?<\/p>\n<p>It means you will become what your heart dwells upon.\u00a0 If you dwell on all that&#8217;s wrong with the world (or your family, or your homeschool, or you), then that is what will &#8220;show&#8221;.\u00a0 Remember this kids&#8217; song?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If you&#8217;re happy and you know it, then you&#8217;re life will surely show it&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As Christians, all the more should joy and gratitude show through our lives.\u00a0 And maybe that second part is the key&#8211;<em>gratitude.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It is hard to be joyful or have a merry heart if you are not grateful.\u00a0 If you think life has handed you a bad platter, then it&#8217;s <em>easy <\/em>to go through life with a chip on your shoulder, and <em>hard<\/em> to see how you can be a blessing to others because you are, ultimately, <em>self-focused.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We are Christ&#8217;s ambassadors, reflecting His heart and His mind to the world.\u00a0\u00a0 There is no room for self-focus in that!\u00a0 Jesus was never focused on Himself.\u00a0 He always was in tune to the Father&#8217;s will.\u00a0 We have that pesky sin nature that makes it a bit more difficult, but it is really a continual <em>choosing<\/em> of where you will focus your thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>I am doing a wonderful study called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deepershopping.com\/item\/hunt-t-w\/mind-of-christ-workbook-revised\/10037.html\" target=\"_blank\">The Mind of Christ<\/a>, by T.W. Hunt and Claude King.\u00a0 (I am doing the workbook, not just reading the book.\u00a0 I highly recommend this workbook!\u00a0 It was recommended to me by a dear &#8220;cyber-friend&#8221;, Asha!)\u00a0 Here is a good quote:<\/p>\n<p><em>I had spent most of my life unconscious of the process of thinking.\u00a0\u00a0 Little of my thinking was controlled by my will&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Then our thoughts often lead to actions&#8211;godly thoughts to godly actions, wrong throughts to wrong actions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>The mind of Chrsist was not disordered but ordered.\u00a0 He controlled His thinking in such a way that only godly actions came though His life.\u00a0 This is one reason you and I need the mind of Christ.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<em>~The Mind of Christ, p. 36<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We need to purpose what we will think and dwell upon. Then we will find our heart lighter and more merry, which leads to the &#8220;cheerful countenance&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p>In Nancy Leigh DeMoss&#8217; book,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianbook.com\/choosing-gratitude-your-journey-to-joy\/nancy-demoss\/9780802432520\/pd\/432520?item_code=WW&amp;netp_id=612543&amp;event=ESRCN&amp;view=details\" target=\"_blank\">Choosing Gratitude<\/a>, Joni Eareckson Tada writes a convicting foreward.\u00a0 You can read a few paragraphs on the sample front flap at CBD.\u00a0 Here is a woman who must have everything done for her&#8212;and yet she is <em>grateful.<\/em>\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t read much of the actual book yet, but just the foreward is enough to give you an attitude check!<\/p>\n<p>I would challenge you to focus on gratitude&#8211;to God, to your husband, to your parents and in-laws, and to your children.\u00a0 Let go of some of the things that are keeping your &#8220;countenance&#8221; from being &#8220;cheerful&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>And really, just focusing on our wonderful Father, Bridegroom King and Comforter is enough to make us grateful!<\/p>\n<p>As you let go of the things cumbering you about like Martha, you will find a song in your heart and a smile on your face&#8212;and your family will start reflecting it back to you and to others!<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I found this blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/homeschoolblogger.com\/heartofvirtue\/63546\/\" target=\"_blank\">Heart of Virtue<\/a>, \u00a0when looking for an audio of The Smile Song, and I thought she had a delightful post&#8211;enjoy the post and her pictures!\u00a0 (Maybe when everyone is well and gets their voices back, we&#8217;ll do a video of The Smile Song since I didn&#8217;t find any! \ud83d\ude09 )<\/p>\n<p>A smile, a smile&#8211;yes, a smile from a grateful, merry heart DOES make this life <em>worthwhile!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We had a wonderful time with our friends on Friday!\u00a0 And then got to go to a baby shower Saturday&#8211;so much fun!
