Herein is love;<\/p>\n
when I cannot rise to him he draws near on wings of grace,<\/p>\n
to raise me to himself.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Herein is power;<\/p>\n
when Deity and humanity were infinitely apart<\/p>\n
he united them in indissoluble unity, the uncreated and the created.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Herein is wisdom;<\/p>\n
when I was undone, with no will to return to him,<\/p>\n
and no intellect to devise recovery, <\/p>\n
he came, God-incarnate, to save me to the uttermost,<\/p>\n
as man to die my death,<\/p>\n
to shed satisfying blood on my behalf,<\/p>\n
to work out a perfect righteousness for me.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
O God, take me in spirit to the watchful shepherds,<\/p>\n
and enlarge my mind;<\/p>\n
let me hear good tidings of great joy,<\/p>\n
and hearing, believe, rejoice, praise, adore,<\/p>\n
my conscience bathed in an ocean of repose,<\/p>\n
my eyes uplifted to a reconciled Father;<\/p>\n
place me with ox, ass, camel, goat,<\/p>\n
to look with them upon my Redeemer’s face,<\/p>\n
and in him account myself delivered from sin;<\/p>\n
let me with Simeon clasp the new-born child to my heart,<\/p>\n
embrace him with undying faith, <\/p>\n
exulting that he is mine and I am his.<\/p>\n
In him thou hast given me so much that heaven can give no more.<\/p>\n
